No assembly needed. Just take it out of the box and put it to use. The hinges of each panel bend both ways. The screen is lightweight enough to easily move around from place to place, but also well constructed. The faux rice paper allows light through, but people/solid objects cannot be seen through it. This quality of completely obscuring direct visibility was very important to me because in my new rental unit, someone standing outside my living room window can see right into both my bedroom doorway and my bathroom doorway (and unfortunately, the shower door is in plain view when looking in through the bathroom doorway). With the divider screen strategically placed, I can now move between my bedroom and bathroom (including the shower) without being seen and without having to shut the doors or close the blinds. I ordered two sets of screens and when they arrived I was disappointed to see that they were unevenly assembled (the four panels were attached at different heights so that only two of them actually touched the floor) making them unstable unless you accordianed them tightly. I was surprised because the other customers who reviewed them had given them such high-star reviews for quality.

So I emailed the company and they responded within 24 hours and asked me to send them photos, which I did. They emailed me back the next day, telling me that they were going to send the photos to their factory. They also offered me a 50% total refund if I was willing to keep them. Since I'm handy, and could take them apart and reassemble them more evenly in my workshop, I thought this was a very good offer. And very fair.

This screen is just right for hiding the junk in the corner, or closing off part of a large room to make it cozy. The stain on the wood frame is beautiful. The rice paper lets the light come though so you do not get that closed in feeling. Easy to move from room to room. And the price is right.
